Why Botox® at the dentist?
A cosmetic treatment, doctors traditionally administer Botox in a medical spa. However, you can get Botox from a dentist. The training and certification for administering Botox focuses on knowledge of the muscles of the face, head, and neck.
Dr. Chambers is Botox certified. It also helps that she already has in-depth knowledge of how the muscles, ligaments, and other tissues function and interact. This gives her a unique understanding of how Botox will affect your muscles and where to place injections for best results.
Another key benefit of Botox in our Lexington, KY dental office is having Dr. Chambers monitor your results. She will monitor the appearance of your skin when you visit for routine dental care. Semi-annual dental care visits are the perfect time to touch up with Botox and maintain your aesthetic goals for your skin.
Botox and TMJ
Doctors commonly use Botox injections to treat temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). When you develop a TMJ disorder, you experience facial pain that radiates throughout the upper body. TMJ dysfunction can create headaches, toothaches, and jaw pain.
Botox relaxes the muscles in the jaw to alleviate pain and discomfort. Dr. Chambers can inject Botox directly into the affected muscles. Botox blocks nerve signals that cause muscle contractions.
Patients may experience relief from TMJ symptoms such as jaw pain, headaches, and difficulty chewing within a few days of treatment. Botox for TMJ is a minimally invasive treatment option. It offers a great addition to our TMJ treatments.

Am I a candidate for Botox?
Most patients are candidates for Botox injections. However, Dr. Chambers will meet with you first to evaluate your skin condition and discuss your cosmetic goals. We want your results to meet expectations and provide a safe and effective outcome.
Botox primarily treats moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. Doctors can also use it for medical purposes to treat excessive sweating and muscle spasms.

Are Botox injections painful?
Many people have valid concerns about the pain associated with Botox injections. The good news is that Botox injections are relatively painless. Most patients report only minor discomfort during the procedure.
In addition, we offer several ways to minimize discomfort. We will apply a topical anesthetic or numbing cream to minimize your discomfort. You can also take an over-the-counter pain reliever before your appointment.
With proper preparation and technique, our Botox injections are virtually painless. For a day or two after treatment, you may notice mild redness or swelling at the site. However, you can use a cold compress or pain medication.
How many injections of Botox will I need?
The number of Botox injections we place during your treatment will depend on the treatment area and your goals.
